Corrections policy

When we get something wrong, we fix it in the open.

How we correct

  • We correct factual errors as soon as we confirm them.
  • Every correction gets a dated note under “Corrections and updates” at the end of the article, saying what was wrong and what it says now.
  • We do not silently change facts, figures, quotes or attributions.
  • Small changes that do not affect meaning, such as a typo or a broken link, may be fixed without a note.
  • If an article cannot be corrected, for example because its central claim turns out to be unsupported, we take it down and say so here.
